Perth Fuel Prices Drop: 'Cheap Tuesday' Returns with Relief for Motorists
Perth drivers can finally breathe a sigh of relief as 'Cheap Tuesday' makes a brief but welcome return this week, offering much-needed respite at the bowser. According to the latest data from FuelWatch, this marks a rare occurrence since the onset of the Middle East conflict, with nearly 50 service stations across Western Australia set to have fuel prices below the painful $2 per litre threshold on Tuesday.
Significant Price Drops Across the State
The Vibe chain is emerging as a popular choice for motorists, with unleaded petrol (ULP) prices averaging 198.9 cents per litre on Tuesday, down significantly from Monday's average of 205.5 cents per litre. The cheapest single outlets in the state are Vibe Oakford and Vibe Welshpool, where ULP is selling for just 185.7 cents per litre, the lowest rate seen in over a month. This price beats out competitors like Costco and Burk, which had offered 187.3 cents per litre back on March 11.
In contrast, Caltex remains the dearest retailer in Perth's metropolitan area, charging drivers an average of 216.8 cents per litre for ULP. On Tuesday, Caltex will be the only retailer still above the 210-cent mark, highlighting the disparity in pricing across different service stations.
Regional and Metro Price Comparisons
For metro motorists, the price decrease extends to all fuel products except for LPG and E85, which are set to remain stagnant at 145.6 cents and 269.9 cents per litre, respectively. The regions are also enjoying the statewide drop in ULP prices, with Port Hedland and South Hedland experiencing the biggest dip, from 239.5 cents to 235 cents per litre.
On Monday, the cheapest petrol in Perth was available at:
- Vibe Forrestfield, at 196.7 cents per litre in the East
- Burk Cannington, at 188.3 cents per litre in the South
- Vibe Neerabup, at 196.7 cents per litre in the North
Looking ahead to Tuesday, the cheapest petrol in Perth will be at:
- Liberty Beckenham, at 199.9 cents per litre in the East
- Vibe Oakford and Vibe Welshpool, at 185.7 cents per litre in the South
- Vibe Beechboro, at 186.9 cents per litre in the North
Diesel Prices Remain a Concern
While ULP prices are dropping, diesel drivers continue to face pressure from rising costs. Diesel prices have seen only a slight decrease, from Monday's average of 313.6 cents per litre down to 311.4 cents across Perth, indicating that relief for these motorists is minimal compared to their petrol counterparts.
This temporary return of 'Cheap Tuesday' offers a brief window of affordability for Perth drivers, but it remains to be seen how long these lower prices will last amidst ongoing global tensions and market fluctuations.
