Reality television personality Tony Mojanovski, best known for his appearance on the Channel Nine series Married at First Sight, has admitted to threatening to kill his nephew and former business partner. However, the 54-year-old from Warrawong claimed the threats were made out of frustration and not indicative of his true character.
Court Proceedings
Mojanovski appeared at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to one count of intimidation. The matter had been scheduled for a contested hearing, but the plea was entered before proceedings began. Judge David Williams accepted the plea and opted not to record a conviction, instead placing Mojanovski on a conditional release order requiring him to be of good behaviour for 12 months.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in November 2025, when Mojanovski called his nephew early in the morning to discuss business matters related to their jointly owned fishing charter company. According to court documents, the conversation quickly escalated when the nephew stated he could not come into work that day. Mojanovski began making threats of physical violence, causing the victim to fear for his safety.
The nephew, who was not identified in court, used his wife's phone to record the conversation. During the recording, Mojanovski could be heard saying, “I’m gonna kill you ya c---.” The victim immediately drove to the local police station to report the threats.
Arrest and Interview
Mojanovski was subsequently arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station. During initial questioning, he denied making any threats. However, after being shown the recording, he admitted to the outburst, telling police he “just lost it.” In an electronically recorded interview, he stated he did not recall the specific threats but acknowledged his voice on the recording, saying, “There you go, that’s what I said.”
Defence and Character References
In court, Mojanovski expressed remorse, describing the incident as a mistake. “I’m not an aggressive person, I’ve never been in a fight,” he told the magistrate. “He just pushed me to my limits.” Mojanovski also claimed he suffered a heart attack in 2025, which he attributed to the stress of dealing with his nephew, whom he described as a “very intense person.”
The court heard that the pair have since sold their business and no longer maintain contact. Mojanovski’s criminal record was noted to contain no prior violence-related offences, only minor driving infractions and a decades-old charge for property destruction.
Judicial Decision
Judge David Williams accepted that Mojanovski was otherwise a man of good character and not a violent individual. He noted that Mojanovski had freely admitted to his actions and characterised the offending as being at the lower end of the seriousness scale. The conditional release order will require Mojanovski to remain of good behaviour for the next year, but he will not have a criminal conviction recorded against him.
Mojanovski’s rise to fame came in early 2025 when he appeared as a groom on the popular reality show Married at First Sight. The incident has since drawn significant media attention, highlighting the pressures faced by reality TV personalities.
