Escaped prisoner flees funeral supervision in Melbourne

Victoria Police are actively searching for an escaped prisoner who fled from supervision while attending a funeral in Melbourne. Officers report that Orijol Rukaj, aged 47, was attending a funeral at Keilor East Cemetery around 1:30pm on Saturday while under police supervision. However, during the service, he allegedly managed to escape the cemetery without being detected.

Rukaj is described as Caucasian, standing 170cm tall, with short shaved black hair and a solid build. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, a black suit, and Asics runners. Police have noted that he is known to frequent the Sunbury and St Albans areas.

In a statement, police said, 'Rukaj is not believed to be violent, but members of the public are urged to call triple-zero immediately if they see him.' Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the search continues.
