Melbourne Tradie Faces Court Over Alleged Deliberate Worksite Vehicle Assault
A Melbourne tradesman has been remanded in custody following a shocking incident at a construction site in Nar Nar Goon, where he is accused of deliberately using a vehicle to strike down a colleague, resulting in life-threatening injuries. The 35-year-old bricklayer allegedly carried out the attack on February 11, in what police describe as a targeted assault linked to a personal dispute, believed to involve a bad breakup within the family.
Details of the Alleged Attack and Victim's Condition
The victim, a 31-year-old man who was working at the site, was hit by the vehicle in an event that witnesses say was intentional. According to workers at the scene, the perpetrator and victim were family-related, with the victim being the brother of the alleged attacker's ex-wife. After being struck, the victim attempted to get up, fearing further harm, but his injuries were too severe, leaving him in agonising pain. The tradie then allegedly unleashed a verbal tirade at the injured man.
Other contractors expressed horror at the incident, with one worker stating, "I think it's disgusting to bring this in. It's absolutely abhorrent." The victim suffered severe internal injuries, and another worker commented, "It's not excusable to see somebody get mowed down out front of a building site in a suburban area."
Legal Charges and Court Proceedings
The alleged perpetrator is facing serious charges, including intentionally causing serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury. A worker remarked on the severity of the situation, saying, "For another co-worker to create an incident like this and put this man's life in jeopardy, it's just, yeah, absolutely unspeakable." The 35-year-old remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 15 for further legal proceedings.
This case highlights the dangers of workplace conflicts escalating into violence, with authorities emphasising the need for safety and professionalism on construction sites. The community and industry stakeholders are closely watching the outcome as it unfolds in the judicial system.
