A 15-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly committing a series of violent crimes in Canberra, including carjackings and a theft at a shopping centre. Police say the teen, who was on bail at the time, used a wrench and a knife during the spree.
The incident began on Tuesday afternoon at Westfield Woden, where the boy is accused of breaking a display case and stealing phones. When confronted by a member of the public, he fled on foot.
According to ACT Policing, the teenager then attempted to steal three cars while brandishing a large knife. During the failed attempts, he allegedly injured a woman and threw a man out of his vehicle.
Police initially could not locate the teen but recovered a knife from one of the cars. He was found at about 9:30 pm that night, and investigators claim to have also recovered the stolen phones.
The boy faces multiple charges, including three counts of attempted aggravated robbery, intentional wounding, common assault, and possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse. He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Children's Court on Wednesday, November 12.
