A magician renowned for creating illusions has himself vanished, prompting serious concerns from police and his family after his car and caravan were discovered abandoned days later.
Details of the Disappearance
Daniel Hidden, 26, was last seen leaving an address on Chelsea Avenue at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast around 3am on 14 June. He was driving a silver Hyundai Santa Fe (Queensland registration 672LI3) towing a Galaxy caravan. His phone is believed to have been switched off shortly after.
Police located Hidden's silver Hyundai Santa Fe and Galaxy caravan at a car park on Currumbin Creek Road in Currumbin Valley about 3pm on Tuesday. Family friends initially thought he might have been heading towards the Springbrook area before the vehicles were found in nearby Currumbin Valley.
Concerns and Character
Hidden's disappearance is considered out of character. Police stated that both investigators and his family have serious concerns for his welfare. Hidden is well known in southeast Queensland's entertainment scene as a mentalist and deception artist, performing interactive mind-reading and illusion shows along the east coast.
A cryptic message on Hidden's website currently reads: "Transformation requires disappearance." It is unclear when the message appeared, and there is no indication it is connected to his disappearance. The message has attracted attention online as police continue their search.
Family and Police Appeal
Attempts by news outlets to contact Hidden have been unsuccessful, with calls to his mobile phone diverting to a full voicemail inbox. In an online appeal, family friend Emma Lane said Hidden left home in the early hours of Sunday, 14 June, towing his caravan and had not been heard from since. "(His) phone has been off since 6am Sunday morning," she wrote, later updating: "Thanks to this post, the police have located the vehicles. But not my friend's son."
Hidden is described as approximately 180cm tall with an average build and olive complexion. He has long black hair, a black beard, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a maroon-coloured top and black cargo pants.
Police said investigations are continuing and urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact Policelink.
