Hazelhurst Arts Centre Announces Diverse 2026 Exhibition Lineup
The Hazelhurst Arts Centre has officially launched its highly anticipated 2026 exhibition program, promising a year filled with inspiring and varied artistic experiences for residents of the Sutherland Shire and surrounding regions. This initiative underscores the centre's commitment to delivering exceptional cultural offerings that are accessible close to home.
Community Pride and Cultural Enrichment
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Jack Boyd, expressed immense pride in the Hazelhurst Arts Centre and its vital role in enhancing local life. "Our community deeply values Hazelhurst and its contributions to cultural enrichment," Cr Boyd stated. "Each year, the centre attracts thousands of visitors through exhibitions, workshops, and events. Highlights of the 2026 Exhibition Schedule
The program kicks off with ARTEXPRESS, running from February to April 2026. This popular exhibition showcases outstanding artworks by HSC Visual Arts students from across New South Wales. A collaborative effort between the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Education Standards Authority, it celebrates student and teacher creativity, allowing the public to witness the early stages of young artistic journeys.
From April 24 to June 21, New South Vol. 2: Recent Installation Art will feature leading artists from Australia and New Zealand. This exhibition presents innovative artworks that transform spaces and encourage visitors to engage with art in novel and interactive ways.
In winter, a solo exhibition by Milli Jannides will be held from July to August. Born in Sydney and based in New Zealand, Jannides is renowned for her dreamlike and expressive paintings that draw on memory and imagination, offering audiences a glimpse into her lyrical and internationally acclaimed style.
Spring brings Dreams Nursed in Darkness from September to November. This powerful exhibition features artworks by and about individuals with lived experience of incarceration. Curated by Elizabeth Day and Claire Taylor, and originally shown at Wollongong Art Gallery, it promotes reflection on social issues, resilience, and human dignity.
Closing the year, Esme Timbery: Master of Craft will run from November 2026 to January 2027. This exhibition honours the life and work of renowned La Perouse shell artist and Bidjigal Elder, Esme Timbery (1931-2023). It includes cherished works from major public collections and pieces by members of the Timbery and Russell families, celebrating generations of cultural knowledge, creativity, and community.
