Fremantle Dockers Launch Early Arrival Incentive Program for AFL Fans

The Fremantle Dockers have unveiled an unprecedented initiative to encourage their passionate supporters, known as the Purple Army, to arrive early at Optus Stadium for this Saturday's highly anticipated AFL match against Melbourne. In a strategic move to address past ticketing challenges and enhance the game-day experience, the club is offering a spectacular array of prizes exclusively for fans who enter the stadium by 3:30 PM, ahead of the 4:35 PM kickoff.

Exclusive Prizes to Boost Fan Engagement

Fremantle has curated an impressive list of rewards designed to motivate early attendance. These include:

  • Ten passes to watch the final quarter from The Locker Room bar, followed by entry to the team's changerooms post-match.
  • Two passes to observe the team's warm-up sessions in the rooms before the game.
  • A signed game-day ball and three signed jumpers for lucky winners.
  • Forty fans will have the opportunity to participate in the pre-game guard of honour.
  • Ten chances to be boundary-side during the warm-up, and five Fremantle merchandise packs.

This initiative follows a previous incident at Optus Stadium during the Origin clash on February 14, where fans encountered significant delays due to long queues. The issues stemmed from a transition to new ticketing technology, with many attendees unprepared as screenshots of tickets became invalid in 2026 due to barcodes refreshing every 15 seconds. Some struggled after failing to download their tickets in advance.

Club's Proactive Measures and Vision

Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick emphasized the importance of this program in helping fans adapt to the updated system. "Changes like this can present some challenges," he stated. "We're working closely with our partners at the stadium, but we've looked to really drive a range of activities and opportunities to encourage as many of our members and fans as possible to both download their tickets early during the week and then also arrive as early as possible on game day."

Garlick highlighted that gates will open from 2:45 PM, urging supporters to maximize their chances of winning these enticing prizes by arriving promptly. Additionally, the Dockers have organized pre-game entertainment featuring WA hip-hop artist Drapht to further enrich the early arrival experience.

Transforming Australian Sports Culture

Beyond logistical improvements, Garlick expressed a broader ambition to shift the culture of Australian sports, where fans often arrive just before games commence. He noted that players have been advocating for a packed stadium during team entries to rival the electrifying atmospheres seen in overseas sports like college events in the US or European competitions.

"Our players love getting as many people there as possible for the team entry," Garlick explained. "We've got a stadium that equals any of those, and a fan base that is vocal and as proud and passionate as any in the world. That's why our players love it. We're seeing what's occurred when we've had Wharfie Time at critical moments in big games, and what sort of noise can be generated in the stadium, and how memorable and fun it can be. So we won't continue to build those traditions."

This comprehensive approach aims not only to streamline entry processes but also to foster a more vibrant and engaged community around Fremantle Dockers games, ensuring Optus Stadium becomes a hub of excitement and tradition for AFL enthusiasts.
