A violent confrontation on a northern Perth road has left a man with serious head injuries and led to a string of criminal charges against an 18-year-old from Jindalee. The incident, which involved an alleged assault with a metal object and erratic driving, unfolded in the coastal suburb of Yanchep on Sunday afternoon.

Alleged Assault and Attempted Theft

According to Western Australia Police, the events began around 12:30 pm on Sunday, January 18, 2026. A man was allegedly driving a red Nissan Navara ute in an erratic manner south along Marmion Avenue. At the intersection with Peony Boulevard, the driver is accused of confronting a man in his thirties who had just exited his vehicle.

The situation escalated rapidly, with police alleging the 18-year-old struck the older man several times on the head with a solid metal object. The attack caused serious head injuries to the victim. The alleged offender then reportedly entered the victim's car and attempted to steal a handbag from a female passenger before fleeing the scene in his vehicle.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the alleged assault, detectives launched an investigation to locate the red Nissan Navara. Their search concluded successfully at approximately 9:00 pm on the same day. Police officers found the ute on Marmion Avenue near Romeo Road in Alkimos and took the driver into custody without further incident.

The arrested individual, an 18-year-old man from Jindalee, was subsequently charged with four offences. The charges laid by WA Police include:

  • One count of attempted stealing
  • One count of possessing a prohibited drug
  • One count of possessing drug paraphernalia

Court Appearance and Call for Witnesses

The accused was refused bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday, January 19, 2026. Meanwhile, detectives from the Major Crime division are continuing their inquiries and have appealed to the public for assistance.
