A Perth remedial massage therapist has been charged with 10 offences following allegations of sexual assaults during treatments. The 39-year-old man from the northern suburbs was arrested on Wednesday and is facing charges including two counts of sexual penetration without consent and eight counts of indecent assault.
Alleged incidents at two clinics
Police allege the offences occurred at two separate remedial massage clinics in the Perth suburbs of Inglewood and Morley between February and September this year. The victims, all female, were aged between 27 and 49. The therapist is accused of inappropriately touching and penetrating the women during what were supposed to be legitimate remedial massage sessions.
Investigation and charges
Detectives from the Sex Assault Squad launched an investigation after a woman reported an incident in September. Further inquiries led to the identification of additional alleged victims. The man was charged and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on November 30. He has been granted bail with strict conditions, including not to work as a massage therapist or have contact with any of the alleged victims.
The charges have sent shockwaves through the remedial massage industry, with practitioners reminded to ensure client safety and maintain professional boundaries. The Australian Association of Massage Therapists has urged anyone with concerns to contact police.
Police are appealing for any other potential victims or witnesses to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
