Australian comedian and actor Joshua Hauville has taken aim at two of Perth's most famous landmarks, describing them as 'horrible' and 'disgusting' in a recent social media post.
London Court under fire
Hauville, known for his comedic 'Frenchman' persona, filmed himself visiting London Court, the mock-London street in the heart of Perth's CBD. With a look of disdain, he pointed to the clock marking the entrance and said, 'I just discovered the most disgusting, horrible thing that I ever see in the city.' He then referenced Joan of Arc, adding, 'Ever since what the British people did to Joan of Arc, I really cannot support anything to do with London.'
The comedian continued his critique, questioning the souvenirs on offer: 'Oh no, and they even have crazy souvenirs, do they have all these crazy Australian souvenirs in London Court? Is this to celebrate colonialism or what?'
Blue Boat House slammed
Next, Hauville turned his attention to the iconic Blue Boat House on Mounts Bay Road in Crawley. He described it as a 'huge disappointment,' calling it a 'blue little sh...y box of wood' that looks 'like a coffin.' He attempted to knock on the door, asking 'Hello?' to no response.
Hauville also mocked the queues of tourists lining up to take photos, noting that the structure is 'right next to a highway.' He referenced the 1990s kids' TV show Bear in the Big Blue House, saying, 'I thought it was a bear in a big blue house or something.'
'I really don’t understand why you want to worship this f....g thing. You have this and you have the cactus. That’s all you have in this city,' he added.
Local reactions
Some locals responded to the video, sharing their own thoughts. One person commented, 'I had this in a gigantic print of that blue house on my wall for years, I thought it was taken in Norway and I’m Norwegian, so I took it as a sign and moved to Perth.' Another said, 'I only recently found out the blue house is so popular with tourists is because it has been internationally featured as a Windows Spotlight login screen/lock screen background/Microsoft screensaver. Still doesn’t explain why people want photos with it though.'
Hauville is set to perform his show Joshy in Paris at Oasis Comedy Club on Friday night.
