A tragic single-vehicle crash in Queensland's far north has claimed the life of a five-year-old boy and left several others with critical injuries. The incident occurred on Gregory Development Rd in Kilcummin, approximately 75 kilometres north of Clermont, around 3:53pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where paramedics treated multiple patients with life-threatening conditions. Despite their efforts, the five-year-old boy could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A three-year-old boy was also found inside the vehicle, suffering from significant head injuries. He was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Townsville University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
A 30-year-old man from Townsville was also airlifted to Townsville University Hospital alongside a one-year-old boy who sustained minor injuries and is in a stable condition. Paramedics reported that the man had potentially life-threatening head injuries.
A 29-year-old woman from Townsville was airlifted by helicopter to Mackay Hospital in a stable condition, but with significant head, leg, and pelvic injuries.
Gregory Development Rd was closed for several hours while emergency services attended the scene. The road has since been cleared and reopened to traffic.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the crash are ongoing. They are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
