An e-scooter rider was seriously injured after being struck by a car that fled the scene in Melbourne's outer western suburbs early Sunday morning.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was hit by a small white sedan while the car was turning from Scott Street onto Swan Street in Melton around 12:20 am. According to Victoria Police, the vehicle failed to stop and was last seen heading east on Swan Street.
The victim sustained serious injuries in the hit-and-run and was transported to hospital for treatment. Authorities have launched a search for the fleeing driver, and no arrests have been made so far.
