A 40-year-old woman has been charged following a police investigation into the alleged torture and neglect of a 10-year-old girl in Logan Reserve, south of Brisbane.
Child found in critical condition
The young girl was admitted to the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane on February 9 after police were alerted to her condition. According to Queensland Police, the child was suffering from severe dehydration, critical malnutrition, and significant untreated injuries.
Authorities declared a crime scene at the child's home in Logan Reserve and launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her condition.
Charges laid
After extensive inquiries, a 40-year-old woman from Logan Reserve has been charged with three counts of failing to supply necessaries and one count of torture. She is scheduled to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, May 5.
The child remains in the intensive care unit, where her condition is described as stable.
