Cody Walker Reflects on 'Odd' Experience Replacing Brother Paul in Fast & Furious

Hollywood star Paul Walker's brother Cody has shared heartfelt insights into the "odd" and emotional experience of stepping into his late brother's iconic role in the Fast & Furious franchise. Paul Walker tragically passed away over 12 years ago in a devastating car crash that shocked fans worldwide.

The Tragic Accident and Its Aftermath

Paul Walker died in November 2013 when the Porsche Carrera GT he was riding in crashed into a pole and trees in Valencia, California. The vehicle was reportedly speeding between 130km/h to 150km/h in a 70km/h zone, leading to a fiery collision that also claimed the life of the driver, Walker's friend Roger Rodas. At the time of his death, Walker was 40 years old and midway through filming the seventh instalment of the Fast & Furious series.

To complete the film, Cody and his brother Caleb stepped in as body doubles, a situation Cody described to The Morning Show as "one of the most odd situations you could probably be put in." He explained, "We were still mourning the loss of our brother. For four months, we travelled to the UAE, we filmed in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, a bunch in Atlanta, and we finished in LA."

Emotional Rollercoaster on Set

Cody, who was 15 years younger than Paul, detailed the complex emotions he faced during filming. "There were days when you'd get lost in it, you'd laugh, you'd smile, you'd have fun, and then you'd feel so guilty because the realisation set in — we're only here doing this because Paul's not here anymore," he said. He credited the Fast & Furious cast for their unwavering support, noting, "This wasn't just some film that Paul was working on, this was Fast — and it really is a family. It was a rollercoaster."

Continuing Paul Walker's Legacy Through Charity

Beyond the film, Cody now runs Reach Out Worldwide, the charity founded by Paul in January 2010 after the Haiti earthquakes. The organisation was born from Paul's frustration with the disaster response and his determination to provide aid. Cody explained, "He figured, 'Hey, you know what? I have resources, I have people trained in this sort of work. If I can help fund this trip and get boots on the ground in there as quickly as possible, that's what I want to do, and I want to go and do it myself.'"

Paul flew to the Dominican Republic with urban search and rescue teams, firefighters, and paramedics, with fellow star Vin Diesel arranging a helicopter to transport them into Haiti with supplies. This effort helped children and staff displaced by collapsed orphanages. Cody reflected, "It really changed him, changed everyone on that trip."

Fuel Fest: Celebrating a Shared Passion

In addition to charity work, Cody launched Fuel Fest, a global car culture event that celebrates the brothers' shared love for vehicles. "It's all makes and all models of vehicles and cars. It's a car show mixed with motor sports," he said, expressing hope to bring the event to Australia soon. The tour recently kicked off in Doha, Qatar, with Florida as the next scheduled location.

This story highlights Cody Walker's journey through grief, his dedication to honouring Paul's memory, and the enduring impact of the Fast & Furious family on his life.
