A Mandurah teacher accused of sexually assaulting a former student has given birth to a child allegedly fathered by the teenage victim, in a shocking case that has rocked a local private school community.
Charges and DNA Link to Alleged Victim
Naomi Tekea Craig, a 33-year-old teacher from Frederick Irwin Anglican School, was initially charged by the child abuse squad with four serious offences. The charges relate to alleged persistent sexual conduct with a male student, who was previously enrolled at the same school, between 2024 and 2025.
The West Australian can reveal that Ms Craig has recently given birth. It is further understood that DNA testing from her placenta has indicated a biological link between the newborn and the young man she is accused of assaulting.
Escalating Legal Case with New Charges
Court records show the case has escalated, with Ms Craig now facing a total of seven alleged offences. While she was originally charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16, and possessing child exploitation material, three new charges have been added.
The nature of these new charges has not been publicly disclosed by the courts, which is standard procedure when cases may involve sexual offending against children. WA Police have also declined to detail the new allegations. Ms Craig has not yet entered a plea to any of the charges.
School Response and Community Impact
Frederick Irwin Anglican School, which has campuses in Meadow Springs and Halls Head, moved swiftly after the allegations became public. The school sent a letter to parents and carers confirming the teacher's arrest and stating the alleged victim was no longer a student.
The letter assured the community that Ms Craig had been suspended from duty and instructed not to attend the school pending the outcome of the police investigation and any prosecution. "The information available to the school suggests that there is no need for any concern for any other children at the school," the letter read.
According to a school newsletter, Ms Craig, who recently taught under the surname Woods, was on maternity leave in December. It has been reported that she was married and already had a child with her husband when the allegations surfaced.
Ms Craig is scheduled to appear via video link in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27. The case continues to develop as authorities pursue the serious allegations of abuse within an educational setting.
