The Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA) is poised to celebrate a significant achievement in its 42-year history in the region with the inauguration of a new $7 million Hunter centre in Beresfield this month.
New Centre Details
Located at 5 Elwell Close, the new facility represents a substantial expansion of disability services, offering increased capacity and innovative programs for the local community. CPA provides support for babies, children, and adults living with cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions, including muscular dystrophies, paediatric stroke, and rare genetic disorders. Its person-centred approach encompasses every life stage, from early intervention and school readiness to vocational pathways and ageing well.

Alicia Frost, CPA regional manager for the Hunter and Central Coast, emphasised that the opening reinforces the organisation's role as a lifelong partner for families. "We are more than just a one-off provider; we offer a continuum of care that provides consistency and stability across decades," Ms Frost stated.
Services and Programs
Complementing its centre at Croudace Bay, the Beresfield site will bolster a comprehensive range of services across the region, including an Early Diagnosis Clinic, occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, and exercise physiology. CPA also delivers specialised intensive programs such as HABIT-ILE and bodyweight-supported treadmill training, alongside accessible sports like athletics, soccer, and basketball.
Ms Frost highlighted that the organisation's work is grounded in world-class, evidence-based research. "Our clients and referrers can have total confidence that our services are safe, effective, and tailored to individual goals," she said.
Supported Living and Community Engagement
The alliance also operates 16 Supported Independent Living homes across Newcastle, helping adults maintain independence and quality of life. Community members can explore these services at the upcoming Hunter Disability Expo, where CPA will be located at Stand 46. Staff will be available to discuss individual needs and assist families or support coordinators in navigating the right options.
"We invite everyone to come and meet our highly trained team of professionals," Ms Frost said. "We are making it a family-friendly stop, with free face painting for the kids while parents and carers chat with our experts."
