Hunter Disability Expo Helps Navigate Evolving NDIS Landscape
Hunter Disability Expo Guides NDIS Changes

The Hunter Disability Expo, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, is set to provide comprehensive support for individuals navigating the ever-changing National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Organised by the ImpactInstitute's My Future, My Choice program, this event is part of Australia's largest disability expo network, offering a welcoming environment where thousands can access vital information to live the life they choose today and plan for the future.

Over 120 Providers Under One Roof

The expo brings together more than 120 providers, including support services, aids, equipment, technology providers, medical and allied health professionals, training and employment services, and advocacy groups. By collaborating with local disability representatives, the event fosters genuine connections to empower people with disabilities, their families, and carers.

"We've noticed businesses increasingly offer innovative services in response to evolving needs," said Kathryn Carey, senior advisor at ImpactInstitute. "The expo has become an informative destination that allows people with disabilities and their families to interact directly with providers in an environment that just can't be replicated online. The Hunter Disability Expo offers an incredibly vibrant atmosphere with entertainment, performances, speakers and demonstrations to empower attendees and create a real community vibe."

Expo Ambassador: James 'Chappo' Chapman

This year's Expo Ambassador is James 'Chappo' Chapman, a passionate surfer, content creator, and Newcastle local who lives by his motto "Difference is dope." Born with pseudoachondroplasia, a rare form of dwarfism, James struggled with his identity growing up until he realised he was made to stand out, not fit in. His story inspires attendees to embrace diversity.

Attendee Testimonials Highlight Impact

Attendees attest to the expo's impact, with one first-time visitor declaring: "It was a great first experience for me and my son. The staff were super helpful." The event is fully accessible, ensuring all participants can comfortably engage with exhibitors and activities.

The expo will include AUSLAN interpreters, live captioning on stage, assistance animal friendly zones, on-site first aid, and wheelchairs available for short-term hire free of charge.
