A single-vehicle collision in Lara has caused a widespread power outage, leaving more than 1,200 homes in darkness. The incident occurred on Monday evening when a car crashed into a power pole on Bacchus Marsh Road, near the intersection with Forest Road.
Emergency response and power restoration
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 6:30 PM. The driver of the vehicle was treated for minor injuries and transported to University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition. Power company AusNet Services has dispatched crews to assess the damage and begin repairs.
According to a spokesperson, the crash caused significant damage to the electricity infrastructure, knocking out power to approximately 1,250 properties in the Lara area. Restoration efforts are underway, but residents are advised that power may not be fully restored until late Tuesday morning.
Impact on the community
The outage has affected homes, businesses, and traffic signals along major roads. Local residents have been urged to exercise caution, especially at intersections where traffic lights are not functioning. AusNet Services has also warned people to stay clear of any fallen power lines and report them immediately.
This is not the first time Lara has experienced a major power outage due to a vehicle collision. In 2022, a similar incident left hundreds without electricity for several hours. Authorities are reminding drivers to remain vigilant and avoid distractions to prevent such accidents.
For the latest updates on power restoration, residents can visit the AusNet Services website or follow their social media channels. The company has also set up a dedicated hotline for affected customers.
