Man Allegedly Tests Positive for Drugs After Crash at Port Stephens

A man has been charged after allegedly testing positive for drugs following a single-vehicle crash at Port Stephens, north of Newcastle.

Incident Details

Emergency services were called to the scene on Lemon Tree Passage Road at Tanilba Bay about 6:20pm on Tuesday, following reports of a car that had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing.

Drug Test Results

Police allege the man returned a positive result for an illicit substance during a roadside drug test. Subsequent analysis of a blood sample taken at the hospital is expected to confirm the presence of drugs.

The man was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station, where he was charged with driving while under the influence of drugs.

Court Appearance

He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Wednesday, March 12.
