A teenage boy is in a critical condition following a violent stabbing at a party in Sydney's west, as police in Brisbane announce a major breakthrough in an alleged multi-million dollar international car theft operation.
Teenage stabbing victim in critical condition
A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed multiple times during a brawl at a house party in Shalvey. The incident occurred on Sedgman Crescent around 10.40pm on Tuesday night.
Emergency services were called to the scene where approximately 40 people had gathered. Paramedics treated the teenager for serious stab wounds before rushing him to hospital in a critical condition. New South Wales Police confirmed no other injuries were reported from the altercation.
Authorities have stated that no arrests have been made at this early stage of the investigation. Police are appealing for witnesses and information as they work to piece together the events that led to the violent attack.
Major alleged car theft syndicate dismantled in Brisbane
In a separate and significant development, Queensland Police have charged seven people in connection with an alleged $8 million international car theft ring operating in Brisbane.
The syndicate is accused of stealing around two Toyota vehicles per day between late October and December of last year. The targeted models included LandCruisers, Prados, and RAV4s.
Investigators allege the group used a sophisticated hacking device, which required a small hole to be drilled into the vehicle, to quickly disable the cars' security systems. Once stolen, the high-value vehicles were allegedly placed in shipping containers and sent to the United Arab Emirates.
Hundreds of charges laid
So far, only 15 of the approximately 60 allegedly stolen vehicles have been recovered by police. The seven accused men are facing a collective total of 400 offences related to the elaborate scheme.
According to reports, no further Toyota thefts have occurred in Brisbane since the arrests were made, indicating a significant blow to the organised crime operation. The bust highlights the ongoing challenge of sophisticated vehicle theft and international trafficking.
