Jye Amiss Shines with Five-Goal Haul in Fremantle's Western Derby Victory
Jye Amiss Dominates with Five Goals in Fremantle Derby Win

Jye Amiss Leads Fremantle to Commanding Western Derby Victory

Fremantle forward Jye Amiss showcased his exceptional talent with a dominant five-goal performance during Sunday's western derby, just one week after his clutch goal against Collingwood. Coach Justin Longmuir praised Amiss, highlighting this achievement as a superb reward for his dedication and hard work over many years.

Amiss Sets Club Record in Stellar Display

Amiss was undoubtedly the best forward on the ground, kicking 5.4 and setting a new club record with nine marks inside 50. His efforts were instrumental in Fremantle's decisive 14.13 (97) to 5.11 (41) victory over West Coast. Longmuir emphasized that Amiss is proving his critics wrong and demonstrating his true capabilities in a three-pronged key forward setup.

Longmuir commended Amiss's resilience, stating, "Throughout all the challenges he’s had, he’s always been positive. He’s always kept working on his game. He’s got his feedback internally, and it’s good to see him get some of the rewards."

Overcoming Early Season Challenges

The coach noted that young key forwards often experience ups and downs as they develop their skills and face various challenges throughout their careers. Longmuir observed that Amiss has navigated this journey effectively, despite some early-season struggles where opportunities were missed and delivery to him was suboptimal.

"In the first couple of rounds, he probably didn’t take his opportunities and we probably didn’t kick the ball well to him, but I think he’s had a pretty solid season," Longmuir explained. He also highlighted the collaborative nature of Fremantle's forward line, where players share the load and support each other, even when not all are hitting the scoreboard.

Clutch Performances Under Pressure

Longmuir pointed out that Amiss has consistently delivered in high-pressure situations, whether by kicking crucial goals in the final quarter or making key contests on the wing when the team needed it most. "Jye has actually stood up for us a lot under pressure. Whether it be kicking goals when we need them in the last quarter, which is an obvious part," he said.

Reflecting on last year, Longmuir added, "There were a lot of times when we just needed a contest from him on the wing, when the opposition were coming at us, or he was two v one against, and he was just able to get it done. So he’s done that a lot."

Praise for Glendinning-Allan Medallist Jordan Clark

In addition to Amiss's heroics, Longmuir was full of praise for Glendinning-Allan medallist Jordan Clark, whose 27 disposals off half-back were crucial to Fremantle's win. "I thought he was super. I think he was disappointed in his game last week. He’s a very proud player," Longmuir remarked.

He noted that Clark's defensive positioning allowed him to be highly effective offensively, and his ball use was excellent for the majority of the match. Longmuir suggested that while voting for the best players was close, from his perspective, it was a tight contest between Clark and Amiss for top honors.

This victory not only underscores Fremantle's strong team dynamics but also highlights the individual brilliance of players like Jye Amiss, who continues to rise to the occasion and solidify his role as a key asset for the Dockers.
