"We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Durston, who was sadly lost following a paddock accident during what was one of his regular morning gallops with paddock mates Twilight Payment and So Si Bon," the statement read. The organisation described him as "a truly gentle soul — affectionate, cuddly, and full of character."

Trained by the legendary Chris Waller, Durston carved out an impressive career that peaked during a spectacular 2022 spring carnival. His most famous victory came on Saturday, 15 October 2022, at Caulfield Racecourse, where he defied the odds as the first emergency runner to ever claim the Caulfield Cup.
That remarkable spring campaign also saw him secure victories in both the Wyong and Newcastle Cups. Overall, the bay gelding won six of his 16 race starts, amassing significant prize money and the admiration of racing fans nationwide.
