A supermarket worker in Sydney's west has miraculously avoided injury after a man allegedly attacked him with an axe. The 27-year-old male staff member was working at a store on Victoria Road in Ermington when the incident occurred around 5:15pm on Friday.
Attack and Arrest
According to police, an unknown attacker attempted to assault the worker with an axe but failed, fleeing the scene. About an hour later, police arrested a 59-year-old man on Seamist Avenue, approximately one kilometre south of the supermarket. An axe was allegedly found nearby, and the man was taken to Ryde Hospital for assessment under police guard.
Charges Laid
The man was later released and charged with affray and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. He is expected to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
The supermarket worker did not sustain any physical injuries, and police are continuing their investigation.
