Motorcycle Safety App Detecht Secures $650K to Expand Globally
Detecht Motorcycle Safety App Gets $650K for Expansion

Nordic motorcycle safety app Detecht is developing its “crash algorithm” with a €400,000 ($650,000) investment led by Swedish-based Chalmers Ventures as it looks to expand across North America and Europe.

With over 25,000 subscribers worldwide, the app lists 84,881 routes in Australia for all kinds of riders tracked by motorcyclists in the community. This includes 8,837 routes in Western Australia, such as a 178km Perth Hills day ride, a 48km river to Cottesloe run starting in South Perth, and a 252km “three dams and a pie” ride that surely stops at Pinjarra Bakery.

By using your phone’s built-in sensors, the app can detect if you fall off your bike or are involved in a collision. It also functions as a GPS. However, unlike Google Maps, which often seeks the fastest route, Detecht says it focuses on the experience. For example, you can set the app to prioritise curvy and scenic roads.

Simultaneously, the platform is a social network for riders, where users can share riding statistics and experiences. Detecht is one of at least a dozen motorcycle safety and tracking apps, with its core technology, the “crash algorithm”, originating from research at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“Having our existing owners and Chalmers Ventures with us underscores the confidence in our growth journey,” Detecht CEO and co-founder Niklas Ohlsson said. “Today, we are one of the world’s largest motorcycle apps where safety, navigation and community are integrated into a single platform. Now we are focusing on honouring that trust and scaling operations further.”
