The iconic Paluma Push cycling event is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, with organisers calling for past and new riders to return for the milestone occasion. The event, held in the scenic Paluma Range north of Townsville, has become a staple of North Queensland's cycling calendar.
A Quarter Century of Cycling
First held in 1999, the Paluma Push has grown from a small local gathering into a major event attracting hundreds of participants from across Australia. The 25th edition promises to be the biggest yet, with organisers planning special activities and commemorations.
Event director John Smith said the anniversary was a testament to the dedication of volunteers and riders. "We are thrilled to reach this milestone. The Paluma Push has always been about community and the love of cycling in one of Queensland's most beautiful natural settings," he said.
Event Details
The Paluma Push will take place on Sunday, August 18, with courses ranging from a 15km family ride to a challenging 50km mountain bike race. The event starts and finishes at the Paluma Dam, with riders tackling winding forest roads and stunning views.
- 15km Family Ride: Suitable for all ages and skill levels.
- 30km Intermediate Ride: A moderate challenge for regular cyclists.
- 50km Elite Race: A demanding course for experienced mountain bikers.
Community Impact
The event has raised significant funds for local charities and community groups over the years. In 2023 alone, it contributed over $20,000 to the Paluma Environmental Education Centre and other organisations.
