A 96-year-old Korean War veteran has paid tribute to his fallen comrades during the Kapyong anniversary parade held in Townsville. The event commemorated the Battle of Kapyong, a significant engagement that took place in April 1951 during the Korean War.
A Solemn Tribute
Veteran John Smith, who served with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), marched in the parade with a heavy heart but a strong sense of duty. He recalled the fierce fighting and the loss of many friends during the battle, which helped turn the tide of the war. Smith emphasised the importance of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
