Fremantle Dockers Secure Caleb Serong with Long-Term Contract Extension Until 2034
Caleb Serong Extends Fremantle Contract to 2034

Fremantle Dockers midfielder Caleb Serong has solidified his future with the club, signing a significant contract extension that will keep him in purple until at least the end of the 2034 AFL season. The deal, announced on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, represents a major coup for the Dockers as they secure one of their key players long-term.

Serong's Commitment to Fremantle Amid External Opportunities

Caleb Serong, a three-time Doig Medallist and three-time All-Australian, revealed that he never seriously considered delaying contract negotiations to explore free agency or potential offers from other clubs. Despite being under contract until the end of 2027, Serong could have waited to enter the market, where he might have attracted lucrative deals, including from the incoming Tasmanian team or a return to his home state of Victoria.

However, Serong emphasised his unwavering desire to remain a Docker. "There are always opportunities to look elsewhere. To be honest, we didn't really entertain too many of those," Serong said. "Once we started the process with Wallsy and the club, it was pretty clear that we weren't too far apart and could get the deal done pretty quick."

Emotional Investment in the Club

Serong expressed deep personal and familial connections to Fremantle, highlighting the emotional significance of his long-term commitment. "It's really exciting. It means a lot to me and my family. This club means a lot to me. It's a great feeling to be able to commit long-term," he stated. The decision was straightforward for Serong, who appreciated the efficiency of the negotiation process, avoiding prolonged discussions into the next year.

Fremantle's Midfield Core Secured for the Future

With this extension, Fremantle has now locked in their three star midfielders beyond 2030, creating a formidable core for the team's future campaigns. Hayden Young is contracted until the end of 2033, Andrew Brayshaw until 2031, and now Serong until 2034. This strategic move ensures stability and continuity in the Dockers' playing group.

Serong noted that the long-term commitments of key players were a motivating factor in his decision. "It's very exciting. That's one of the parts that gets me going in the morning - the passion and excitement that those guys and such a big group of our cohort have for this football club," he explained. "You don't commit that long to a footy club if you don't have an emotional and strong investment. That's what I feel the most. I feel an emotional strong love for this footy club."

Dockers' Long-Term Player Commitments

Fremantle's roster planning extends beyond the midfield, with several key players secured for multiple seasons. The club's locked-in players include:

  • 2029: Murphy Reid, Luke Jackson, Shai Bolton, Jye Amiss
  • 2030: Brennan Cox, Josh Treacy, Sean Darcy
  • 2031: Andrew Brayshaw
  • 2033: Hayden Young
  • 2034: Caleb Serong

This comprehensive list underscores Fremantle's focus on building a sustainable and competitive team, with Serong's extension serving as a cornerstone of their long-term strategy in the AFL.
