The Townsville District Court convened on May 12, 2025, to hear a series of criminal matters ranging from assault and drug offenses to property crimes. The day's proceedings highlighted the ongoing judicial efforts to address crime in the region.
Assault Case
A 34-year-old man appeared before the court charged with grievous bodily harm following an incident in the city's CBD last month. The court heard that the alleged attack occurred outside a licensed venue, leaving the victim with serious facial injuries. The defendant was remanded in custody to face trial at a later date.
Drug Offenses
In a separate matter, a 28-year-old woman pleaded guilty to possession of a dangerous drug and supplying a schedule 1 substance. Police found methamphetamine and cash during a search of her home in the suburb of Aitkenvale. The court ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned the case for sentencing in June.
Another drug-related case involved a 45-year-old man charged with trafficking cocaine. The court heard that he was part of a larger operation that supplied the drug across North Queensland. The matter was adjourned for a committal hearing.
Property Crimes
Three individuals were sentenced for break and enter offenses. A 22-year-old man from Kirwan received a two-year suspended sentence for stealing electronics from a business in Garbutt. Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, were placed on probation for their roles in a series of vehicle thefts in the Rosslea area.
Other Matters
The court also dealt with charges of fraud, public nuisance, and breach of bail conditions. A 39-year-old woman was fined for obtaining property by deception after she used a stolen credit card to purchase goods worth over $2,000.
The sittings concluded with the judge reminding all parties of the importance of timely compliance with court orders. The next sessions are scheduled for June 2.
