Eight charged after violent brawl at Dawesville kebab shop

Eight individuals now face charges following a violent altercation that erupted at a Dawesville kebab shop last week, resulting in the establishment being closed for several days.

Initial Arrest and Charges

On Friday, a 55-year-old man was taken into custody and subsequently charged with attempted aggravated home burglary, aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, and being armed in a manner that may cause fear. This arrest came after the brawl.

CCTV Evidence and Staff Ordeal

Security camera footage from inside the kebab shop captured multiple individuals engaged in a physical confrontation that caused damage to the premises. Staff members recounted to 10 News Perth that they were left “fearing for their lives” as they waited over two hours for police to respond.

Store owner Ish Arora expressed frustration, stating he felt authorities did not take his complaint seriously. “I tried explaining to them (the police) that we needed someone to be here. They arrived around 3:40ish,” Mr Arora said.

The kebab shop, which had only opened four weeks prior, was forced to close for three days due to the damage inflicted during the brawl. By the time law enforcement arrived, most of the group had already fled the scene.

Second Disturbance and Further Charges

Later that same evening, at approximately 8:30 pm, police received reports of another disturbance occurring outside a residence on Aldersyde Way, also involving a large group of individuals.

It is alleged that the group covered their faces, smashed windows at the property, attempted to force entry into the house, and damaged two vehicles parked outside. “It will be alleged a 55-year-old man involved with the group assaulted the 17-year-old male occupant with a metal pole,” a WA Police spokesperson said. “The teenager sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was able to restrain the man until police arrived a short time later, when he was taken into custody.”

The remaining members of the group departed before police arrived. The 55-year-old man was charged with attempted aggravated home burglary, aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, and being armed in a way that may cause fear. He is scheduled to appear at Mandurah Magistrates Court on May 22.
