A 51-year-old Perth man has appeared in court accused of secretly filming women and children in public places across several metropolitan suburbs.
Alleged Offences Across Multiple Suburbs
Daniel Rei Nin faced Perth Magistrates Court via video link from Hakea Prison on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. He is charged with seven offences, which include indecently recording a child under 16 and under 13, along with possessing child exploitation material.
Police allege the incidents occurred in Burswood, Ellenbrook, Joondalup, and Perth between November 2025 and January 2026. The charges relate to the practice commonly known as 'up-skirting', where individuals are filmed without their knowledge or consent.
Bail Application Delayed
During the hearing, Mr Nin's defence counsel made an application for bail. However, Magistrate Elizabeth Langdon requested the matter be adjourned for one week to allow the prosecution adequate time to examine the "nature of the charges".
This delay means the bail application will now be heard on 21 January 2026. The prosecution is expected to present further details of the case at that time.
Further Evidence Uncovered
Following a forensic examination of the accused's electronic devices, investigators allege they discovered additional photographs and videos of child exploitation material. This evidence forms a significant part of the prosecution's case.
The court proceedings highlight ongoing concerns about covert filming and the possession of illegal material in Western Australia. The case will return to Perth Magistrates Court next week for the rescheduled bail hearing.
