Wilson Park's Heart + Playground Reopens in Rivervale After Major Revamp
The City of Belmont has officially reopened Wilson Park's Heart + Playground in Rivervale, marking the completion of a nine-month transformation project that has revitalised the outdoor space for families and visitors. The upgraded park now offers a range of modern, inclusive features designed to cater to all abilities and ages, creating a vibrant community hub in the heart of Rivervale.
Inclusive Design and Community Focus
The revitalised Wilson Park includes nature-inspired play equipment, a contemporary pump track for cycling enthusiasts, and inviting gathering spaces alongside quiet areas for reflection. Key accessibility features have been integrated, such as wheelchair-friendly pathways and sensory-friendly play zones, ensuring the space is welcoming and usable for everyone. This upgrade represents the second zone of the Wilson Park Precinct to be enhanced, with its design heavily influenced by community consultation to foster fun, inclusion, and connection.
Official Celebration and Community Impact
An official celebration is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, inviting residents to explore the new facilities and experience how the upgraded precinct brings the community together. City of Belmont mayor Robert Rossi emphasised that the project goes beyond mere equipment installation, stating it delivers a top-tier destination playground that eliminates the need for families to travel out of the city for quality outdoor recreation. He highlighted the park's role as a place where children can play and explore while families gather and connect, making the hard work worthwhile as it sees daily use.
Funding and Government Support
The project was a collaborative effort, jointly funded by the City of Belmont, the Federal Government, and the State Government. The Federal Government contributed $2 million through its Investing in our Communities Program, while the State Government, via Lotterywest, also provided $2 million in support. Belmont MLA Cassie Rowe noted that Lotterywest's involvement aims to foster social connections and a sense of belonging, with Wilson Park now serving as a welcoming space for all. Swan MHR Zaneta Mascarenhas, reflecting on her experience as a mother, praised the park for offering fun, vibrant areas where children can be active and included, and where families can build community and create lasting memories.
