A 46-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly being caught driving with a blood alcohol reading five times the legal limit in Cairns. Police allege the woman was pulled over on the Captain Cook Highway at Machans Beach about 9:20pm on Saturday.

Senior Constable Russell Parker said the incident was concerning and highlighted the dangers of drink driving. "This is an extremely high reading and it is fortunate that no one was injured," he said. "Drink driving puts everyone at risk, and we will continue to target those who choose to get behind the wheel after drinking."
