A significant police operation in a southern Adelaide suburb has resulted in the arrest of three teenagers, with one allegedly found to be carrying a machete.
Police Descend on Mitchell Park
The incident unfolded on Saturday night when scores of police officers responded to Thorne Crescent in Mitchell Park around 10.40pm. The authorities were acting on reports concerning a group of individuals who were allegedly trying car door handles.
The Chase and Discovery of a Weapon
Officers quickly located three individuals on nearby Egan Crescent who matched the descriptions and CCTV footage of the suspects. The group consisted of an 18-year-old man and two females, aged 18 and 16.
Police allege that the 18-year-old man attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase. Upon searching him, officers made a concerning discovery. They allegedly found a machete concealed in his pants. An image supplied by South Australia Police later showed the blade to be approximately 30cm long.
Charges and Court Appearances
The trio, all from Mitchell Park, were subsequently arrested and charged. The 18-year-old man faces one count each of possessing a prohibited weapon and hindering police. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on January 15.
The two women were arrested and each charged with one count of offensive language and disorderly behaviour. The 18-year-old woman received a formal caution, while the 16-year-old was bailed and is set to face the Christies Beach Youth Court, also on January 15.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, police do not believe the group managed to gain entry into any vehicles during the incident.
