Sister Details Horrific Injuries of Waitress Stabbed 15 Times at Brisbane Club
The sister of a young waitress who was allegedly stabbed multiple times at her workplace in Brisbane has publicly revealed the devastating extent of her injuries, while expressing gratitude to those who intervened to save her life.
Zoe Samson-Wood, aged 20, was stabbed 15 times while working at Easts Leagues Club in Coorparoo, Brisbane, last Thursday. The alleged attacker was her colleague, Cameron William Leslie Clark, 33, who had been fired just hours earlier over claims of inappropriate behaviour towards Zoe.
Extent of Injuries and Reconstructive Surgery
Four days after the terrifying incident, Zoe's younger sister, Ruby Samson-Wood, shared details on social media about the severe wounds inflicted. She stated that Clark allegedly pinned Zoe down during the attack, cutting down to her skull and tendons, which resulted in significant nerve damage.
As a consequence, Zoe has had to undergo reconstructive surgery. Ruby described her sister as putting up a hell of a fight and extended heartfelt thanks to a 61-year-old chef colleague who intervened and was stabbed in the stomach during the altercation.
Additionally, a 41-year-old female diner who tried to help was also stabbed, suffering a 4cm laceration. Ruby expressed her profound grief, writing, My heart is so broken as a woman, as a member of the community and mostly as a sister.
Raising Awareness on Violence Against Women
Ruby emphasized that she shared Zoe's story not to incite fear or seek pity, but to highlight her sister's immense bravery and strength in surviving the attack. She aimed to raise awareness about violence against women, particularly in workplace settings.
She wrote, I am here for every single woman that has been made to feel powerless, especially within their workplace. Zoe's friend, Kate Low, echoed these sentiments, calling out the broader issue of ongoing violence against women and stating that no one should have to endure such trauma simply for being at work or setting boundaries.
Police Investigation and Charges
According to Queensland Police, the alleged attack occurred when Clark produced a large carving knife in a hallway leading to the main dining room, where about 40 patrons were having dinner at the time. He repeatedly stabbed Zoe before bystanders restrained him until police arrived and made an arrest.
Zoe was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital with critical injuries, including a 10cm head wound, a 10cm laceration to her wrist, and multiple defensive wounds on her hands that required stitches. She was expected to be discharged from the hospital on Monday.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham revealed that Clark had been on his day off when he received written notice of his dismissal over what was described as unwanted and unsolicited attention towards Zoe that caused her distress. Police confirmed that the pair were not in a relationship and did not know each other outside of work.
Clark was charged with multiple offences, including attempted murder, unlawful stalking, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding, and going armed to cause fear. He was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, but his appearance was adjourned as he remains in hospital under police guard, receiving treatment for significant injuries to his wrist and hand.
