A woman's body has been discovered at a popular beachside suburb in Adelaide, prompting a significant emergency response and a police investigation.
Emergency services called to Henley Beach
Emergency crews were summoned to an apartment complex at Henley Beach shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Thursday following reports that a woman had been found unresponsive outside the building. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, they were unable to revive her.
Police investigation underway
The incident has triggered a substantial police response, with detectives and forensic officers spending most of the morning examining the scene and interviewing witnesses. It is understood that one line of inquiry being pursued is whether the woman may have fallen from a balcony.
Police have escorted a man from the property, believed to be the woman's partner, who is assisting detectives with their inquiries. The large crime scene has left neighbours and early morning beachgoers shaken.
Witnesses describe shock
“I was surprised to see flashing lights. I wasn’t sure what it was at first, and I noticed the police tapes blocking off the area, so I had to take a detour along the beach,” one witness said. “It’s quite shocking actually. I mean, I walk down here all the time with my dog, and to be walking along the beach and to see police cars everywhere is really quite disturbing,” another beachgoer added.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remains ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
