Two men are set to appear in court on Wednesday over separate child exploitation and sex offence allegations, with one case linked to disgraced Australian author Craig Silvey.
Basketball Referee Charged with Multiple Offences
A 19-year-old basketball referee from South Perth has been charged with more than 20 offences, including the alleged sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16. Police allege that the man sexually assaulted a child he met through his role as a referee with the West Australian Basketball Association. The alleged offences occurred between February and April 2026.
The charges against the 19-year-old include indecently dealing with a child over 13 but under 16, sexually penetrating a child in the same age range, aggravated stalking, and persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16. He is scheduled to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on May 13.
Second Man Charged with Child Exploitation Material Offences
A 57-year-old man will also face court on Wednesday after being charged with producing and distributing child exploitation material. Police allege that the online offences took place between January and February 2026.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of Craig Silvey, the disgraced Australian author who pleaded guilty last week to two charges related to images of child exploitation material.
