Dramatic Police Shooting Footage Emerges After Sunshine Motorway Crash

In a tense incident that unfolded on Wednesday, video footage has captured the dramatic moments of a police-involved shooting following a car crash on the Sunshine Motorway near Sippy Downs. The events led to the charging of Dominic Reece Brynham, a 32-year-old man, after he allegedly approached officers while armed, resulting in a high-stakes chase and gunfire.

Chase and Shooting Details Revealed

Exclusive videos obtained by 7NEWS show Brynham running along Nambour Connection Rd in Woombye, with police in hot pursuit. The situation escalated when tow truck operators alerted authorities that Brynham was allegedly armed with a gun. One operator radioed, "Oh, guy with a gun. Oh, wow, he’s got a gun," while another crew member warned police directly, "Hey, watch out man, that guy’s got a gun hey. That guy’s got a gun. Running down the street towards you, mate."

Moments later, gunshots were heard as Brynham attempted to jump a traffic island. Tow truck operator Roth Brennan described the scene, stating, "The young man decided to jump the centre island and as he’s done so, I just heard a gunshot go off and the offender dropped to the ground on the other side of the barrier." Police allege Brynham was carrying a high-powered revolver loaded with six bullets at the time.

Crash and Vehicle Switch Preceded Incident

The drama began earlier when Brynham allegedly crashed a white MG hatchback on the westbound lanes of the Sunshine Motorway in Sippy Downs around 11.40 am. After fleeing the scene, he reportedly received assistance from a Good Samaritan, Oscar Brownbill, who pulled over thinking he was helping a stranded driver. Brownbill told 7NEWS he unknowingly picked up Brynham, who then jumped into his white Toyota Hilux on Nambour Connection Rd.

Brownbill recounted, "You can only imagine he’s more than likely trying to flee the scene and he’s just going to jump into some innocent party’s car. He chucked stuff in the back of my seat, and then my tub was open, so he chucked the rest of his stuff just in there and from there he said just take off and take me around the corner." Police later located the Hilux on Woombye Palmwoods Rd.

Aftermath and Charges Filed

Following the shooting, Brynham was provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before being transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Authorities have charged him with a range of offences, including:

  • Attacking police while armed
  • Possessing a firearm without authorization
  • Using a gun to intimidate or scare people
  • Common assault
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Dangerous driving
  • Unauthorized possession of ammunition

Police believe Brynham is associated with the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang. He was briefly mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court and has since been released into the care of corrective services, underlining the serious nature of the allegations in this high-profile case.
