Uga Ghiri: Third Boutique Resort Opens in Sri Lanka's Highlands
Uga Ghiri Resort Opens in Sri Lanka Highlands

Uga Ghiri, a new boutique retreat, is scheduled to open in the scenic highlands of Sri Lanka in July 2026. This marks the third property launch by the Uga brand within an 18-month period, following the recent openings of Uga Halloowella and Uga Prava.

Historic Setting and Panoramic Views

The resort is situated on the historic grounds of the former Sutherland Estate in Ella, a region renowned for its lush landscapes. Spanning 4 hectares of terraced hillside in the central highlands, Uga Ghiri offers guests breathtaking panoramic views across expansive tea gardens and verdant valleys.

Adding to its allure, the property is located right beside Ella's iconic Nine Arch Bridge. This brick and stone structure, completed in 1919, stands as one of Sri Lanka's most recognisable landmarks, with mountain trains still traversing it today.

Design-Led Accommodation and Amenities

Uga Ghiri continues the brand's reputation for creating design-led properties that deeply connect with their location, heritage, and natural surroundings. The resort features a restored manor house at the centre of the estate, which serves as the main building. This historic structure boasts high ceilings and preserved architectural details, seamlessly blending old-world charm with modern hospitality.

Luxurious Villas with Sri Lankan Influences

Accommodation includes 15 stand-alone villas, each offering 111 square metres of floor space. These villas combine contemporary design with subtle Sri Lankan influences that reflect the island's rich cultural heritage.

  • Every villa features large windows that frame stunning Hill Country views.
  • Each unit comes equipped with a private jacuzzi for ultimate relaxation.

Wellness and Culinary Experiences

The resort's spa facility includes two treatment rooms, a sauna, and a steam room, all positioned to overlook Ella's majestic peaks. Guests can indulge in a variety of curated experiences, including artisanal tea tastings, hands-on Sri Lankan cooking sessions, and guided tastings of Ceylon arrack.

Rates for this exclusive retreat start from $1800 per night, positioning Uga Ghiri as a premium destination for discerning travellers seeking an authentic Sri Lankan experience.
