A large-scale search and rescue operation is currently underway in Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay following the disappearance of a crew member from a commercial vessel overnight.

Incident Details

Victoria Police have confirmed that the commercial ship had departed from port and was preparing to navigate through the heads, exiting the bay, when a male crew member, believed to be in his 30s, was reported missing.

The vessel contacted emergency services at approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday to report the missing crew member and request assistance.

Multi-Agency Response

A comprehensive multi-agency search of Port Phillip Bay continued into Friday morning. Authorities have deployed the Police Airwing, Australian Maritime Safety Authority Aircraft, HEMS Air Ambulance, and various water vessels to assist in the operation.

Police have urged anyone with information regarding the man's disappearance to come forward and contact authorities.
