Fiji's InterContinental Resort: Why It's the Ultimate Island Escape
Inside Fiji's Award-Winning InterContinental Resort

For many Australians dreaming of a tropical getaway, Fiji consistently tops the list. This island paradise, a shorter flight from the east coast than Perth is from Sydney, offers an irresistible mix of kind locals, crystal-clear waters, and a famously relaxed 'Fijian time' vibe. But with so many stunning options, choosing where to stay can be a challenge. Should you base yourself on the main island of Viti Levu or explore multiple islands?

A Resort That Offers the Best of Both Worlds

We recently experienced three nights at the acclaimed InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, located on the breathtaking Natadola Bay, just a 55-minute drive from Nadi International Airport. This sprawling property masterfully combines the convenience of a major island with the feeling of a secluded escape.

The resort is nestled within 35 acres of tropical gardens and boasts a pristine two-kilometre beachfront. With 266 rooms and suites, three swimming pools, a world-class spa, an 18-hole golf course, a gym, a kids’ club, and multiple dining venues, it is a fully self-contained paradise.

Luxury Accommodation and Unforgettable Details

Accommodation options range from garden and pool views to breathtaking beachfront suites, all featuring king-sized beds. We stayed in the Club Intercontinental one-bedroom suite, a 115sqm sanctuary perched at the highest point of the resort. The suite was a highlight in itself, featuring his-and-hers vanities, a complimentary mini-bar, an outdoor bathtub, a private grassy area, and the crowning glory: a private plunge pool.

The thoughtful touches elevated the experience. A welcome fruit platter awaited our arrival, Fiji water was replenished daily, and housekeeping delighted us with creatively folded towel animals. Club Intercontinental guests enjoy exclusive perks, including a la carte breakfast, afternoon high tea, and daily sunset cocktails from 5pm to 7pm overlooking an infinity pool—a perfect pre-dinner ritual.

No visit is complete without time at the resort's award-winning spa. Each treatment grants access to the luxurious Wai Zone, featuring a rain shower, ice shower, hydrotherapy pool, and steam room—a wellness haven where hours can easily slip away.

Dining, Pools, and Fijian Culture

When it comes to dining, the resort caters to every mood. Toba Bar & Grill offers casual, poolside lunches and dinners with a vast menu from pizzas to grilled barramundi. Sanasana presents a nightly changing buffet, exploring themes like Spices of India or Fijian Flair. For a special evening, Navo restaurant serves exquisite fresh seafood with stunning lagoon views.

For relaxation, guests can choose between the adults-only pool, the family pool, or the Club infinity pool. The warm Fijian hospitality is ever-present, from the friendly staff to the nightly torch-lighting ceremony and traditional entertainment at the Kama Lounge & Bar.

The Verdict: A Multi-Award-Winning Gem

Rates vary by season and view. For a weeknight in February, a one-bedroom pool view room starts at AUD$475 per night, while the exclusive Club Intercontinental suite with a plunge pool is around $920 per night.

The resort's quality is officially recognised. In December, the InterContinental Fiji was awarded Fiji’s Best MICE Hotel for 2025, adding to its previous wins in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. After experiencing its size, amenities, and genuine warmth, it's easy to understand the repeat accolades. It’s a resort that makes you never feel the need to leave its sun-drenched embrace.
