A teenage girl has been airlifted to Perth in a serious condition following a single-vehicle rollover on a major regional highway in Western Australia's Mid West.
Emergency Response on Brand Highway
The incident occurred on the Brand Highway near Bookara, approximately 30 kilometres south of Geraldton, on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene just after 4:30 PM following reports a vehicle had left the road.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a Toyota Hilux utility that had rolled over. The vehicle sustained significant damage in the crash. There were multiple occupants inside the ute at the time of the accident.
Serious Injuries for Young Passenger
The most seriously injured was a 13-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the vehicle. She suffered significant injuries in the rollover.
St John Ambulance paramedics treated the teenager at the scene before she was transported by road to the Geraldton Airport. From there, she was transferred into the care of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
The RFDS airlifted the critically injured girl to Perth for urgent specialist hospital care. A spokesperson confirmed she was admitted in a serious condition.
Police Investigation Underway
Other occupants of the Toyota Hilux were assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital transport. The exact number of people in the vehicle has not been officially released.
Major Crash Investigators attended the scene to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash. Police have cordoned off a section of the highway to conduct their forensic investigation.
The Brand Highway was affected for several hours, with traffic disruptions in the area while emergency crews worked and evidence was collected. Motorists were advised to avoid the region or expect delays.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam footage of the Toyota Hilux travelling on the Brand Highway prior to 4:30 PM on Tuesday, to contact Crime Stoppers.
