Drone Used to Deliver Meth in Wollongong, Men Charged

Two men have been accused of using a popular drone to deliver methamphetamine in Wollongong. The DJI drone was allegedly carrying 66 grams of the drug in an unsealed dog waste bag when it crashed at a unit complex on Corrimal Street on Tuesday night.

Incident Details

Police received reports of two men “hiding inside” the complex. The men claimed they were looking for the drone, according to police. Officers then searched the area and discovered the device and drugs.

The discovery led to a search warrant being executed at a home on nearby Cliff Road on Wednesday. Police said officers found the front door secured with metal and “several deadbolts.” Police allegedly seized a baton, an electronic stun device, 42 grams of methylamphetamine, and $4,350 in cash.

Charges Laid

Two men, aged 24 and 43, were later charged with single counts each of supplying drugs, possessing drugs, and entering a premises without a lawful excuse. Police allege the drone was being used to deliver 66 grams of methamphetamine.

The pair were refused bail during a court appearance on Wednesday. They are expected to next face Wollongong Local Court on May 12.
