One of Scarborough's most beloved dining spots, General Public Food Co., has officially opened the doors to its exciting new northern suburbs location in Marmion. The highly-anticipated launch on Thursday, November 27, marks a significant coastal expansion for the acclaimed pizza brand.

A New Neighbourhood Hub is Born

Founded six years ago by the hospitality duo Evan Hewitt and Nic Strachan, the new Marmion pizzeria has transformed a former dry cleaning store near the Marmion Village Shopping Centre on Sheppard Way. The co-founders revealed they had been eyeing an expansion into the northern suburbs for some time, with the Marmion project taking approximately a year to finalise.

"There was a real gap for a relaxed, family-friendly neighbourhood spot somewhere locals could grab a coffee at 6am, settle in for pizza with the kids, or catch up with friends," the partners said. "When we found this site, it instantly felt like home. The goal was simple: bring that same Scarborough energy a little further up the coast."

Around-the-Clock Dining and Inclusive Menus

Mirroring the successful Scarborough model, the new Marmion restaurant will be open from 6am until late, seven days a week. The extensive offering includes morning coffee, a full brunch menu, the brand's famous homemade sourdough pizzas, and a curated selection of alcoholic drinks.

In a significant commitment to inclusive dining, Hewitt confirmed the Marmion venue is completely gluten-free and nut-free, just like its Scarborough counterpart. "We've built each of our venues with our families in mind," Hewitt explained. "We both have kids and our families live with food intolerances, so ensuring our venues are gluten-free and nut-free has always been really important to us. It means everyone can enjoy the experience together without compromise."

Patrons can expect all the signature sourdough pizzas and sourdough folds, alongside tacos, desserts, and popular sides like cheesy halloumi croquettes, corn ribs, and cauliflower bites.

Investing in the Local Community

The expansion represents the latest venture for Hewitt and Strachan, who also operate The Rowing Pavilion in Nedlands and Bert's in City Beach. The duo plans to replicate the warm, community-focused atmosphere that made their original Scarborough location a standout success.

"If Scarborough taught us anything, it's that when you invest in the community, the community invests right back," they shared. The owners are committed to creating local jobs, hosting regular community events, and supporting nearby schools and clubs, positioning the new restaurant as a central meeting point for the Marmion area.
