A devastating weekend on Western Australia's roads has claimed two lives in separate tragic incidents in the Wheatbelt region, both occurring near the town of Gingin.
Friday Night Fatality on Brand Highway
The first crash occurred late on Friday night, just after 11:25pm, in the locality of Bambun. A black 2011 Ford Falcon was travelling south on Brand Highway when it left the carriageway and collided with a tree.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the driver, a 35-year-old man, sustained critical injuries and could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the location of the accident.
Second Crash Claims Young Life on Saturday
In a heartbreaking second incident the following day, another young life was lost. At approximately 5:05pm on Saturday, a white Holden Colorado utility vehicle left the road and hit a tree on Bindoon–Moora Road in Mindarra, also south of Gingin.
A 22-year-old male passenger died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency crews. The driver of the ute, a 25-year-old man, was seriously injured. He was airlifted from the crash site to Royal Perth Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Major Crash Investigation Underway
Major Crash Investigation officers are now examining the circumstances surrounding both fatal collisions. Police have issued a public appeal for information from anyone who may have witnessed either crash.
Authorities are particularly keen to obtain any dashcam, mobile phone, or CCTV footage from the areas around Brand Highway in Bambun and Bindoon–Moora Road in Mindarra during the relevant times. Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately to assist with the inquiries.
These back-to-back tragedies have cast a sombre shadow over the Wheatbelt community, serving as a stark reminder of the dangers present on regional roads.
