A teenage boy has been left with life-threatening injuries following a serious collision between a truck and a car in Byford, south of Perth, on Thursday morning.
Emergency Response at Byford Intersection
The crash occurred at the intersection of Thomas Road and Briggs Road just after 9:30 am on May 30. Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and St John Ambulance paramedics, were dispatched to the scene following multiple calls from the public.
Upon arrival, crews found a significant amount of debris and a heavily damaged sedan that had collided with a truck. The male teenage driver of the car, believed to be the sole occupant, was found trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighters worked for approximately 20 minutes to carefully extricate the teenager from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment. The operation required precision due to the severity of the damage and the critical condition of the patient.
Critical Patient Airlifted to Hospital
The teenage boy sustained serious, life-threatening injuries in the impact. After being freed from the car, he was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone.
A Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) plane was tasked to airlift the critically injured teen to Royal Perth Hospital for urgent specialist care. His current condition remains serious.
The driver of the truck, an adult male, was physically uninjured but was treated for shock at the scene by medical personnel.
