A major head-on collision has caused significant disruption in Canberra's north, with a key exit ramp off Gungahlin Drive in Kaleen closed for several hours following a severe crash.
Scene of Major Collision
Police were called to the scene around midday on Friday, December 5, 2025, after reports of a two-vehicle crash. Initial information indicates that a car, reportedly travelling in the wrong direction, collided head-on with a white truck that was exiting Gungahlin Drive.
The force of the impact was substantial, with both vehicles appearing to be destroyed. Debris from the crushed vehicles has spilled onto the surrounding grass and is currently blocking the ramp. At least eight police units, including forensic vans, remain on site as Road Policing officers conduct their investigation.
Road Closures and Investigation
The crash prompted the closure of Gungahlin Drive in both directions for a period. An ACT Policing spokesman confirmed that the affected off-ramp will remain closed for "a number of hours" while emergency services work at the scene and evidence is collected.
Authorities have also revealed that the car involved in the Kaleen crash is linked to an earlier incident in the suburb of Dickson on the same day. Police are expected to provide further updates on the condition of the people involved in the collision.
Ongoing Impact and Commuter Advice
The closure is expected to cause considerable delays for afternoon commuters in the Gungahlin region. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the ramp is cleared and reopened.
ACT Policing's investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash is continuing.
