Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hunter Crash, Road Closed for Police Investigations
A man in his 20s has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a motorcycle crash in the Hunter region on Friday morning, prompting a major road closure for police investigations.
Emergency Response to Richardson Road Incident
Emergency services were called to Richardson Road near Raymond Terrace just before 9am on January 30 following reports that a rider had fallen from a motorbike. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the patient at the scene for serious pelvic and limb injuries before transporting him by road ambulance to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance confirmed the patient, believed to be a man in his 20s, received immediate medical attention before being taken to the major trauma centre for further treatment.
Major Road Closure and Traffic Disruptions
Richardson Road was closed westbound following the crash and was expected to remain shut to traffic for an extended period while police conducted their investigations at the scene. According to Live Traffic NSW updates, the closure prevents travel from Medowie to Raymond Terrace via Richardson Road past the dam.
Transport authorities have implemented diversions for vehicles less than 25 metres in length, with motorists being urged to:
- Use alternative routes
- Plan their journeys carefully
- Allow extra travel time for their trips
Ongoing Scene Management
Emergency services remained at the crash site throughout the morning, with police, ambulance personnel, a tow truck, and Transport for NSW crews all present at the location around 10am. The coordinated response ensured both medical treatment for the injured rider and proper management of the traffic situation.
The serious nature of the incident has highlighted the importance of road safety in the Hunter region, particularly on routes like Richardson Road that connect communities between Medowie and Raymond Terrace.
