Man dies in Port Macquarie crash, police investigate

An elderly man has tragically lost his life following a single-vehicle crash on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. The incident occurred on Friday night, December 5, when the man's car collided with a power pole.

Emergency Response at the Scene

Emergency services were called to Ocean Drive in Port Macquarie shortly after 10pm following reports of the serious crash. Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to the location, where they found the vehicle had sustained significant damage.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, the driver, believed to be aged in his 70s, could not be saved and died at the location. Officers from the Port Macquarie Police District established a crime scene to begin their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

Police Launch Investigation

Authorities have confirmed they are making inquiries to determine the cause of the crash. A report is now being prepared for the Coroner, which is standard procedure following a death on NSW roads.

Police are urging anyone with information about the crash, or who may have witnessed the incident, to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.

NSW Road Toll Continues to Rise

This tragic death adds to a grim statistic for the state. According to the latest data from the state's transport department, 331 people have lost their lives on NSW roads so far this year. This figure is slightly higher than the road toll recorded at the same time last year.

With the holiday period approaching, authorities have announced a double-demerit enforcement operation will be in place from December 24 through to January 4 next year. The operation aims to curb dangerous driving behaviour during a traditionally high-risk time on Australian roads.

The community in Port Macquarie and the wider Mid North Coast region has been saddened by the news of this latest fatal accident. The investigation by local police remains ongoing as they work to piece together the events leading up to the crash on Ocean Drive.
