A tragic single-vehicle crash on the Hume Highway has claimed the life of a woman, while an infant passenger survived and was flown to hospital for treatment.
Crash Scene on Major Highway
The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, shortly after 9:30 am. The crash site was located on the Hume Highway at Gundagai, in the Riverina region of New South Wales, more than 150 kilometres from the Australian Capital Territory.
Officers from the Riverina Police District were called to the scene where they discovered a white SUV that had left the roadway and collided with a tree. Inside the vehicle were the driver, a woman believed to be in her thirties, and an infant who was the sole passenger.
Emergency Response and Airlift
NSW Ambulance paramedics provided emergency medical care to both occupants at the scene. Despite their efforts, the woman died at the location of the crash. The relationship between the deceased woman and the child has not been released by authorities.
The infant received treatment from emergency services before being transported by air. The child was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition, according to a police statement confirming the infant's status.
